There’s something undeniably powerful about putting one foot in front of the other for a cause that matters.
On May 10th, two of our residential directors, David and Andy, will be trading desk chairs for running shoes as they take on the Run To The Sea Ultramarathon: a scenic (and let’s be honest, slightly punishing) 50km route from Horsham to Hove.
What began as a personal challenge quickly became something much bigger: a way to support a cause close to their hearts—Esteem.
Why They Are Running
Esteem is a fantastic charity that works with young adults aged 14 to 26, helping them build confidence, find community, and grow through mentoring, volunteering, and personal development. It’s the kind of organization that changes lives, quietly but profoundly, and Andy & David are proud to be running in their name.
When they first set out, they set a modest fundraising goal of £1,000. The aim was to do their best and see where it landed. But something amazing happened! Thanks to incredible support from friends, family, colleagues and kind strangers, they hit that goal fast....... So doubled it!! Now, they are chasing £2,000 and every donation is pushing them closer!
The Training (and a Little Healthy Jealousy)
Training for this has been a journey in itself. Andy recently ran the Brighton Marathon as part of his prep, his longest race to date, and a big confidence boost. Meanwhile, David's taken a slightly sunnier approach, racking up his training miles along the sands of Miami & Daytona Beach (yep, Andy was definitely a bit envious).
From muddy woodland trails to seaside sprints, our training has been sweaty, sore, and at times, a little bit surreal. But every step has felt meaningful, knowing who they are running for.
The Final Stretch
With just weeks to go, the nerves are real. 50km is no joke, it’s more than a marathon, and a serious test of both mind and body. But the support they receive keeps them going. Every kind message, every shared post, every pound donated—it fuels their run.
If you’d like to support (and seriously, thank you if you do), you can donate through our fundraising page:
Whether you’re cheering from afar or meeting the guys at the finish line in Hove, they appreciate every bit of love and encouragement. Let’s do something amazing together—for young people, for their future, and for the belief that we all rise when we lift each other up.
See you at the sea.
