Oakley Property joint main sponsors for local paddle boarding charity event
We were proud to be joint main sponsors of this years Speedee Boarding event at Hove Lagoon, last Friday. The event is arranged by Neil Laughton, and we also took part as sponsors at the 2022 event. The team had an amazing day!
The Speedee Boarding event isn’t just a good way to raise money for important local charities but also a good laugh and great opportunity to try a new sport or have some fun team bonding in quite a different way.
We took part with what ended up being three Oakley teams, mixed of people that regularly paddle board and some that had never set foot on a board - and we all just laughed all day. It is safe to say the activity also brought out the team spirirt, and a healthy does of competitiveness, in everyone. Our very own Andy Russell won the demolition derby at the end of the day, and took home the trophy!
This is the 3rd annual Speedee Boarding event, and having previously helped raise money for local good causes through the event we are delighted to have been given the opportunity to be joint main sponsors again!
Chris Oakley comments: «Speedee-Boarding is just a great fun day for everyone. Both times we have taken part with teams of mixed levels of paddle boarding experience. Entrants don’t need to have any experience and we took both novices and accomplished paddle boarders, and to be honest, it makes no difference. The aim is that you get from one side of the lagoon to the other as quickly as you can in a relay, without taking a plunge in a few feet of water. So if your company is thinking of getting involved, the only ability your going to need is to laugh at yourself!
Working with Neil is always great fun and he has done some whacky and crazy adventures in his time which are inspirational. I’ve been lucky enough to accompany Neil on two of these and found that Speedee Boarding is a way to get your staff to experience a bit of adventure, and maybe get a passion for a new sport. Most of our team had until the day never set foot on a paddle board, but they had the benefit of being able to get some training on the day. I had just come back from a paddle board expedition with Neil to the Amazon and thought I’ll ace this, only to find my board had been nobbled with the fin removed and I came in last! This is an event for anyone of any ability to come along to, but if being on the water is not for you just come along for what is quite a spectacle, and a great BBQ!».
