Oakley Directors Attend Propertymark Sussex Conference to Strengthen Industry Knowledge

On October 16th, Oakley Property’s directors—Andy Hovey, David Beaken, Nick Williams, and Murray Kerr—attended the Propertymark Sussex Conference alongside Assistant Lettings Manager, Amy Howouth. The event gathered property professionals to share expertise, explore industry trends, and stay up to date on regulatory changes.

Key Highlights: Compliance, Collaboration, and Business Focus

The standout session for many attendees was delivered by Mike Day from Integra Property Services, who introduced the “10 Ps”—a strategic framework for business success. “A plan is vital,” shared Andy, Residential Director, reflecting on the importance of proactive planning across all aspects of the business. Andy called the day “a great opportunity to increase industry knowledge alongside other property professionals.”

Paul Shamplina’s talk on the Renters' Reform Bill also captured attention, with David Beaken, Lewes Director, noting how Shamplina’s light-hearted approach—complete with stress ball rewards—brought energy to a complex topic. David appreciated learning about The Propertymark Trust, a charity supporting Propertymark members, adding, “It was amazing to hear about the incredible work they do.” Compliance, David noted, may be a “dry” topic, but the conference kept it engaging.

Nick Williams, Associate Director, echoed the value of Mike Day’s session, emphasising the importance of “knowing your numbers” for business success. He described the event as “inspiring,” noting how it fostered collaboration across the industry with a shared commitment to raising standards.

A Positive Approach to Compliance

A featured session on compliance urged attendees to see it as a business enabler rather than a burden. At Oakley Property, we know that a positive, proactive approach to compliance—especially around Anti-Money Laundering and Consumer Protection Regulations—can enhance our service and client trust.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Events like the Propertymark Sussex Conference ensure Oakley Property remains at the forefront of industry knowledge, compliance, and client service. Our team left inspired and ready to implement new ideas, continually strengthening our ability to deliver the best for our clients in a rapidly evolving industry.
